Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has predicted that danger looms over Northern Nigeria as regards the closure of schools in that region.
The former Vice President of Nigeria listed likely dangers that lies ahead over the action of some Northern state governors who deemed it fit to continually shut down schools in their states.
He said it is unfortunate that the high rate of insecurity in the country has forced the governors to take the hard decision of shutting down schools.
The former presidential candidate of the People’ s Democratic Party (PDP) however, said the decision of the governors to shut down schools was not the best.
According to a report by The Sun Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar urged the governors to reverse their decisions immediately.
The former vice president said this should be done side by side with the conquering of insecurity across Nigeria as well as the provision of adequate security for school children.
Atiku Abubakar opined that when this is done, it would help school children make their lives and future relevant by getting an education.
Speaking over the weekend at the Baze University graduation, celebration, the Turakin Adamawa said if the schools are not reopened, it could lead to more socio- economic challenges and insecurity in times to come.
In his words: ” Unarguably, education is the foundation of any society. In our globalized and technological world, national wealth is more and more based on knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship. It is education that makes them possible.
” For a country like Nigeria, education must be available for all. Societies are transformed when girls and women are educated. We see these all over the world.
” When women are educated, families are smaller and healthier, more children go to school, infant and child mortality is reduced, national economic growth increases and corruption is reduced. All these are achieved from education. ”
This is very true. Education is very important especially to the younger generation. It helps to shape their future and make things easier.
In today’ s digital world, education has made virtually all aspects of life very simple and easy. Once one can read and write, one can find one’ s feet in a lot of ventures.
Education comes with knowledge and the absence of it comes with ignorance and dearth of knowledge. It is best to be educated and stand out than not be lettered and ignorant.
In Northern Nigeria for instance, a lot of those young Nigerians recruited as terrorists are not educated. As a result of that, they are easily brainwashed into being used as terrorists. Kindly share this article.
